My precious Nanny has joined her savior. He has given her legs the strength to walk again, a mind that knows ALL things, and a love that surpasses all others. Until I rejoice with her again, I want to share what I remember about my grandmother.
I remember ...
-standing at the end of the driveway wanting her to come and get me.
-swinging on the porch swing while she sang Jesus Loves Me, I'm a Little Teapot, or whatever other song she made up.
-picking beans and potatoes.
-breaking beans on the front porch.
-hide and seek.
-grilled cheese and tomato soup.
-chestnuts off the tree and cherries from the jar.
-getting swatted for climbing on the stereo.
-fighting for my life while hunting easter eggs.
-Christmas presents piled to the ceiling.
-shopping for school.
-picking roses.
-that I was the favorite grandchild! (sorry guys :) )
-sleeping next to her at night.
-putting lotion on her feet.
-Saturday nights dancing to Hee Haw (purely for her own satisfaction).
-hugs and kisses.
-dinners as a family.
-the love she showed my children and grandchild.
-staring at all of her pretty Avon girls I wasn't allowed to touch that now sit on my shelf.
-the way she loved and sacrificed.
-the way she suffered in the last few years as she lost her memories and the strength of her body.
I will never forget what you have done for me. I will cherish the memories and I will create new ones in your honor. I will strive to be the woman you were. I love you Nanny.
