I babysat for Gary and Brenda in Wellsville,NY starting when they were 1 and 3 for six years adding 2 more boys, until I moved away. What a wonderful family the Kephart's were. A fine example of a loving Christian family!

I was very sad to hear of the death of Gary Kephart when I returned from vacation in January. I enjoyed my conversations with him over the years, mostly at professional functions (we were both health physicists) and at band concerts (when Jody played). I liked Gary so much because he was not your average person, but a thoughtful and often witty commenter on the passing scene. So many people can talk only about their work or only about their children -- only about their own parochial concerns and interests -- but Gary could and would talk about everything. I am sorry that he did not have more time on this earth. I would like to add something for Jody. After my first husband died, I did a lot of thinking about the nature of loss. Subsequently I wrote a newspaper column that seemed to resonate with a lot of people, on how music reminded me of my husband and comforted me. One thing I said that was that I was a winner in the lottery of love: a good man chose me (me!) and loved me over decades until he died. No matter what else happened in my life, that wonderful memory was something I would always have. I believe, from what I knew of Gary, that that was true of Gary and Jody as well. So I hope that in time the memory of the long time that Gary and Jody had together will be a comfort to her.

Jody and family,
My deepest condolences to you at this difficult time. May God give you strength and may Gary rest in Peace.
