Lance R. Saidak

Loudon - Surrounded by his wife and 3 children, Lance R. Saidak, age 84 of Loudon, passed away on January 12, 2021 at Parkwest Medical Center. Well known for his laughter, jokes and pranks, Lance's joyous presence will be greatly missed. He spent much of his life training kids to be their best! One of his previous students recounted a life lesson in which Lance coached the young man to hope his opponent had a great performance rather than his worst in the event -- that way you know you've done your best in winning. Lance earned his B.S. at Springfield College, his M.S. at Florida Atlantic University and his Doctorate of Education at UT, Knoxville. He was a highly successful competitive gymnast and outstanding/award-winning coach. Lance was also a Professor at Roane State Community College for many years. He enjoyed golf, hockey and travel/cruising; but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Saidak; mother-in-law, Martha Higdon; brother-in-law, Larry Higdon, and sister-in-law, Dean Higdon. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leona Saidak; children: Laura Smith (Scott), Derek Saidak (Leslie) and Scott Saidak (Sydney); grandchildren: Cameron, Gabrielle, Cole, Tristan, Carlie, Piper, Cassie, Tavia, Parker and River; sister-in-law, Hilda Butler (Art); brothers-in-law, David Higdon (Susan) and Mark Higdon. Friends may come by the funeral home on Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to pay their respects. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements. www.clickfuneralhome.com

Coach Lance was a great coach with an amazing ability to coach gymnastics teams to win championships. He knew how to assist individual gymnasts in their physical growth, coordination and strengthening as well as their character development. Truly he will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him and be coached by him. Truly he had a successful life!
