I was deeply saddened to see that Mike had passed. We got to know each other at Texas A&M and became close friends. He was always the "Big Guy" and among his many interests was his love for Marshall University's Thunderin' Herd basketball team. Today, after Marshall's first ever NCAA tourney win, I looked to reconnect with Mike and was shocked to see his obituary. My deepest condolences to Sharon and the family.

My doctorate was also from MSU. Mike was introduced by one of his professors but by the wrong name! Mike then corrected him and we had a nice talk.

He was to apply for one of our positions and got the job. We published some research together before homesickness took him to Tennessee. I was disappointed by his leaving. He was a bright and good man. I have not seen him in ten years as I am retired

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Gant. I was a graduate student of his at the University of Tennessee. Ultimately, Dr. Gant directed my dissertation and served as my Ph.D. advisor. In all my years of education, no professor had a greater impact on my life and career than he. I count him as, not only my mentor, but a dear friend as well. I genuinely love him and am deeply saddened by his passing.

Please know the influence he had in so many students' lives. I am so grateful to have known him. It is devastating to know that he is no longer in this world.

Dr. Allison L Hayes
