Emily "Cookie" Shoemaker
Knoxville, TN
On March 8th, 2018, Emily Shoemaker, better known as "Cookie", departed this life for her eternal home in glory where she joins recently departed husband, Leroy, for eternal reservations at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb. Born in Sweetwater, Tennessee to John and Nellie Hicks, Cookie was one of seven daughters and one son. In 1949 she married Leroy Shoemaker and in the following years became a loving mother to a son, Harry Steven and a daughter, Betsy Marlene. They were the apple of her eye! Moving to Knoxville in 1959 she was employed a short while at Woodruff's before becoming an Interior Designer with Wellington Galleries. Over the next 15 years she became one of Knoxville's best known designers, furnishing some of Knoxville's finest homes. Her original vision and easy to love personality brought visual and personal satisfaction to the residents of Knoxville's most distinguished neighborhoods. Not to rest on those laurels, she co-founded with her husband, Leroy, what became one of Knoxville's Best Known Bakeries, HAM N' GOODYS. For 37 years Miss Cookie was the face of HAM N' GOODYS. Loved by all of her customers for her commitment to service and quality, she endeared herself to thousands over the decades. It was during this time she was also blessed with a new grand-daughter, Rachel Nell, whom she loved gloriously! A little later came Steve's wife, Terri "Ruth," whom Cookie loved like one of her own, along with a second beloved grand-daughter, Tami Jamia "Mia". Miss Cookie, barely 5 feet tall with her fearless heart, powerful persona and bright blue eyes could encourage, and when necessary, instill fear. Her courage emanated from her faith in Jesus Christ. Scores of Knoxvillians heard her testimony through which more than a few came to receive the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Today, we celebrate Miss Cookie and she will be remembered forever! Though diminutive in size she lived the life of a giant. She will be missed by her sisters, Pat, Evelyn, Beatrice, Annie & sister-in-law Ann Hicks, but today she is dancing with her sisters in heaven, Polly, Reba, and her brother Ray. She is most assuredly resting in peace! Also, to her beloved nieces and nephews she was called "Mama Cookie." They were more like her children; Paul & Tona, Karen, Mitzi & Kevin, Abraham & Cinthia, Rusty, Rex & Andrea, Jay & Lucy, Adam & Julie, and Lisa. Her Loving grandsons by marriage are Joey Grizzle and Will Parrott. She was adored by her Great-Grandsons: Jonathan, Josiah, Christian, and Vincent, who would melt her heart in a moment of time! We must mention John Mason & his daughter Kinsley who greatly loved their Great-Aunt Cookie & she them!

Steve, Betsey, and Rachel, I am so very sorry that I didn't know about Cookie passing away on the 8th. I talked to Steve at Walgreens on the phone and he told me she was in Hospice Care. She was one of the finest ladies I have ever known. So sorry for you to lose her but she is rejoicing with Leroy I am sure. Please let me know if there is ANYTHING I CAN DO !!!

Miss Cookie will be sadly missed, as will Leroy. I've no doubt that she will still be keeping an eye on everyone from above. I know that her kind and Christian spirit will live on in the lives of those that she touched.
May God be will all of you at this time, and know that she has reached the peace that we all hope to find.
