Gary J. Hollenbeck
Gary J. Hollenbeck, 74, of Ellensburg, passed away at his home on Monday, August 27, 2018. A celebration of life reception will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ellensburg American Legion Hall.
Gary was born on August 4, 1944 in Seattle, Washington to R. "Chic" & Elaine (Schrock) Hollenbeck. He grew up in the Seattle area before his family moved to Issaquah in 1960 and Gary graduated from Issaquah High School in 1962. After graduation, he joined the US Army Reserve. He worked for Washington Asphalt for a time before going to work for Watson Asphalt where he worked as an equipment operator and job foreman for over 30 years. He retired in 2009.
Gary was a talented woodworker thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent in his workshop, hand-crafted many pieces of furniture and other items. He was a consummate story teller and we will miss his mischievous sense of humor. He always kept us laughing and always will.
Gary is survived by his wife, Becky, at the family home in Ellensburg; brother Jan Hollenbeck of Carnation and three children - Ron Hollenbeck, Dana Gill and David Hollenbeck. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions in Gary's honor are suggested to the Ellensburg Animal Shelter, 1007 Industrial Way, Ellensburg.
