James "Brandon" Devlin, 21, of Monroe City, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.
Brandon was born on December 26, 1997 in Hannibal, to Janet (Kendrick) Shriver & Jason Devlin.
He was a 2016 graduate of Monroe City High School where he served as a Student Council officer for all four years, was a member of the National Honor Society and Lego Robotics Team, and also participated in the school's production of Cinderella. Brandon was a member of the football and baseball teams, serving as captain for both. He received numerous awards for both academics and sports throughout his high school career, and Brandon was especially honored to be selected as a recipient of the Monzell Sharp Memorial Scholarship.
Brandon was a Junior at the Missouri Institute of Science and Technology in Rolla, where he was majoring in Mechanical Engineering and a brother of the Missouri MU Chapter of Phi Kapp Theta. Brandon was in his third year as the catcher for the Missouri S&T Club Baseball team and played a big role in the conference and district championship and World Series run during the 2017/2018 season. He also served as Communications Officer for the team.
He enjoyed his summers in high school umpiring baseball games and working for the Lion's Club doing field maintenance throughout the season. Brandon enjoyed throwing batting practice for younger players and felt privileged that parents put trust in him to teach and mentor their children with his knowledge and skill of the game of baseball.
Brandon spent last summer, and this winter break, working at Lakeside Casting Solutions and was preparing for an engineering internship with BASF in Palmyra.
He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and, of course, his Monroe City Panthers.
Brandon is survived by his parents, Jason & Ali Devlin, Palmyra, and Janet (Kendrick) & Kent Shriver, Quincy, IL; his brother, Blake Grice, Monroe City; Five step-brothers: Brett & Michael (Chelsie) Shriver, Quincy, IL, Evan "Bo" Johnston & Raeson Wayne Miller of Palmyra, and Devon (Ali) Warthen, Hannibal; one step sister, Elli Johnston, Palmyra; Grandparents Craig & Carol Devlin of Palmyra, Debra Morton of Hannibal, Tim & Janice Kendrick of Monroe City; Step Grandparents that loved him as their own, Matt & Marcia Huber & Dale and Marsha Elston, Palmyra, Doris Shriver, Quincy, IL; Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his step-grandfather Ronald Morton, baby cousin Sarah Kendrick, and triplet baby cousins Jaxton Kyle, Emerson Jae, and Remington James Benjamin.
Brandon had a contagious smile and never knew a stranger. He was a positive influence on many lives and can never be replaced. He was loved by all who knew him.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 02, 2019 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City. Fr. Greg Oligschlaeger will officiate assisted by Deacon Mike Long, burial will be held from the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Monroe City, Missouri.  Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Holy Rosary Church, Monroe City, a Parrish Scripture Service was held at 7:30 p.m.   
Pallbearers were: Dalton Lewis, Keegan McMurdo, William Burns, Brice Caldwell, Christian Crager, Cole Crider
Honorary Pallbearers: Molly Hunn, and the Brothers of Phi Kappa Theta

I am truly sorry for your loss of James. It's always so hard to lose a loved one in death. Our heavenly Father is quite aware and he understands the pain you feel. He will give you comfort. (Psalms 86:6, 7) Your family has my deepest, heartfelt, sympathy.
