Perry County has lost an outstanding citizen. When I go out my front door, there are three beautiful white oaks that were grown from acorns and planted by Gailen. I saw that he was responsible for planting over a quarter million trees, but he also had the knowledge and dedication to keep them alive. He stapled tens of thousands of white paper sheets on the growing tips of his white pines to keep the deer from eating them. He was an excellent steward of the land. He cared about the environment and ecology. His farm demonstrated it. He was generous, hard-working, and honest. I will miss our talks, and the people and the trees on Indian Run Road will miss the dedicated man on the red tractor. We extend our deepest sympathy.
