Sister Helene McBride, PBVM, (formerly Sister Mary Anne Patrick) entered eternal life on August 31, 2015, at the Presentation Motherhouse in San Francisco. A native of San Francisco, California, Sister Helene was born on April 4, 1931, and was a Sister of the Presentation for sixty-seven years. Sister Helene leaves her sister in law, Joyce McBride, cousins and their families, as well as her loving Presentation Sisters. Sister Helene was the daughter of Emma Woebbe and John Aloysius McBride. She was predeceased by her brother, John Joseph McBride. Sister Helene earned a B.S. in education at the University of San Francisco, an M.A. in American History at Notre Dame University, Indiana, as well as teaching and administrative credentials. Sister Helene began forty-four years of ministry in Catholic education in 1949, spending fifteen years as an elementary school teacher in Presentation schools in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Montebello, San Lorenzo, and Los Angeles. In 1964, she began twenty-eight years as a high school teacher and administrator in Catholic high schools in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Petaluma. Sister Helene served as assistant to the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from 1971 to 1973. From 1974 to 1986, she served as the Vice Principal and then Principal at Presentation High School, San Francisco. Beginning in 1996, Sister Helene was the manager of Martinelli House, a low income housing facility for seniors in San Rafael. From 2004 to the present, she served the community of Sisters who reside at the Presentation Motherhouse. A vigil service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the Presentation Motherhouse, 2340 Turk Boulevard, San Francisco. Visitation is available that day starting at 3:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, also at the Presentation Motherhouse, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Memorial contributions to the Sisters of the Presentation are preferred. Contributions can be sent to Sisters of the Presentation, Development Office, 281 Masonic Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94118.
