JoAnna was an incredibly strong, intelligent, admirable educational leader. I had the pleasure to work with her for over ten year from 1996 to the time she retired in December of 1995. She was very supportive of me and my colleagues. Always took care of her teachers--she was very acquainted with the ply of teachers and would often remember her mother telling her "You must always take care of your teachers". Her mother would be very proud of JoAnna--she always took care of her teachers. There was no budget line that she would not maximize. If at the end of the year there was some money left unspent that would not carry over to the following fiscal year, JoAnna would make sure it was spent with school materials, or by rewarding teachers financially for their good work. I will miss her mind, her humor, her speech, her leadership, but mostly her gentle guidance and counsel. I loved her and miss her----I will remember her the rest of my life.

I am so sorry to hear about JoAnna. I worked for her at Madison Middle School and dearly loved her. I have been in education for 25+ years and JoAnna is by far my favorite principal! She encouraged me in my career and as a working mom with 3 young boys, she was understanding and supportive and made it possible for me to the best mom and teacher all at the same time. I loved watching her cheer on her son in baseball and was so thankful for the advice she gave me regarding my boys playing sports. All three of my boys got into the baseball, partly because of her influence! I will forever be grateful for knowing JoAnna and the great impact she had on my life!

I remember Joanna fondly and with admiration. She was an amazing and talented woman. She had strength, drive, charisma, along with great humor and wit. She was well versed. Her speech was eloquent. It was always easy for her to lead interesting conversations with anyone present. She was very special and everyone cherished being with her. She was generous and kind. I attended many delicious dinners with her and my dad at their beautiful Chatsworth home. She was highly educated and knew a lot about everything. She loved my dad so much. She brought him so much joy. I am grateful for her being in my dads life. She was stoic, like her husband to the end. She left with grace. She leaves a wonderful son behind whom I admire as well and who she raised exceptionally well and he will carry on with her integrity, strength, and courage through this terrible loss. She will be missed and her memory will live on through the many people who were touched by her inspiration. Goodbye Joanna, you were an amazing woman.
