Leo Treciokas Obituary

October 4, 1927 - December 16, 2015 Dr.  Leo John Treciokas, a dedicated neurologist, accomplished medical researcher and devoted husband and father passed away on December 16, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California where he had been on staff since 1969. He was 88. Born in 1927 in Kaunas, Lithuania, he was the only child of Joseph Treciokas, a prominent dermatologist and Alodia Dicius Treciokas, an opera soloist. The family fled their homeland in 1944 to escape Soviet occupation and emigrated to the United States. Dr. Treciokas received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and doctorate in Physiology from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. A neurologist for 47 years, he worked at both his own private practice in Santa Monica and at UCLA Medical Center, where at one time he served as Associate Director of the Movement Disorder Clinic. He was involved in developing new and innovative treatments for Parkinson's Disease and he also helped to develop the Botox program at UCLA, treating patients for a variety of movement disorders.  Beloved by his patients and colleagues, Dr. Treciokas loved practicing medicine. A proud and grateful American throughout his life, he remained devoted to his first homeland and was involved in many activities to advance the cause of the Lithuanian nation. His ashes were buried alongside those of his parents and grandparents this past Saturday, June 11 at Svedesai Cemetery near his family farm in Lithuania. Dr. Treciokas is survived by his wife, Nijole, his two daughters, Ina and Laura and his grandson, Jasper Leo.

I just looked you up and feel like I've been punched in the gut :( You were my doctor in the 70's when I first started having seizures at 12 years old. Thank you for being a good neurologist to me at such a hard time in my life. RIP

Dr. Treciokas, I find it hard to put to words how I feel.. The Tears just keep flowing; even though you would not want me to cry. I will say, and think you know from our many conversations that I doubt that there will be any neurologist like you again. You always could explain in simple medical terms what was causing each new symptom that developed.. you always responded to me immediately on the phone. Why I was worried when I didn't get a call back in December to tell you about my lung cancer.. I was Far Beyond Devastated to hear Jill tell me the news. It feels so lonely not having you. I've found absolutely no one who can come close to taking your place. Thirty two years with you "By My Side" feels like family. But that's how you always made all of us in our family Feel. I pray constantly that somehow you are still watching over us. Anyway, THANKS for BEING YOU, and the brilliant neurologist you were. I will try to Smile as I remember you telling David and I that you wanted to work until the end. Guess you had your way. I will love you forever and ever and "Even More." As always, HUGS. Oh, and forgive me for that knee reflex. (Gotta show you I can still smile.)
