RIP Mark, I'll always remember you as as Buffed Leather in the AOL quiz rooms, knowledgable in pretty much everything, but a real gentleman.

Mark and I first met virtually in an AOL conference room Pub Quiz. His screenname there was BuffedLeather420. We both shared a passion for quizzing. Mark was duly and universally acknowledged there as one of the top quizzers. No one there could top his knowledge of the Classics (Greek and Roman). His online pals will surely miss him.

Mark was a Pro.

Yes, all Mark's literary accomplishments are impressive, but remember: he was absolutely a cool guy on top of that. He served as a dorm Preceptor at Cowell College, UCSC, and attracted all the most interesting students. I admired how he led by example, keeping a lid on the obstreperousness while still having a lot of fun. I was a staff member at Cowell at the time.
