September 18, 1947 - August 27, 2016 Roger Kroll, a native of Long Beach, California, was born September 18, 1947, and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 27th 2016 surrounded by his family and friends. Roger attended college at USC where he attained a BA in Social Science and Communications and later received an MBA from Long Beach State College. He began working at Orchid Cleaners, the family dry cleaning business, in the late 1960s and ran the business through 1987. He met Bonnie Noah in 1971 and they were married December 10, 1972. After the family sold Orchid Cleaners, Roger fulfilled life long dreams by opening his own business, Orchid Graphics and Marketing, and becoming a teacher of graphic design, math, general education, Microsoft Office and computer animation. Starting in the late 1990s, he taught for ROP and SCROC, was a substitute teacher for Long Beach Unified, taught at the East Los Angeles Skills Center and Long Beach School for Adults, and most recently was the computer lab tech and substitute teacher at Kettering Elementary School. He was an active member of several social clubs including Long Beach Tippers, The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, and the Long Beach Committee of 300. His past club affiliations include the Lions Club, Elks Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Harbor Dry Cleaners Association. He was an avid USC football fan and especially beloved by fellow fans and USC alumnus. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his children Jennifer and Lydia and partner Quinn, his adopted son Eric Stewart and wife Candice, his sister Laura Wabash and husband Lee, nephew James Phelps and wife Josie, and cousin Jan McCaul. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary at 1500 East San Antonio Drive in Long Beach.

Roger, Earl (Duke) and i were roommates at USC for two years, and he and i were on the crew together. He was always my conscience about trying to lose weight, something that doesn't come naturally to me, for the crew and more importantly he was a friend whom i knew would always be there for me during the tough times at school. we stayed in touch for quite a while but then drifted in our own direction, but i never forgot him and am truly saddened to learn of his passing. he will never be forgotten by me, and i know that he did not have a mean spirited cell in his body; one of the truly great people who will be missed by all who had the privileged to have known him. there is no kinder person. fight on...RB

Here's to better times, daddy. I'll never forget all the ways that you enriched me and Jen's lives. Here's a picture of us two years ago on your birthday at your favorite restaurant; Tony Roma's for Ribs! I wish I could celebrate this years birthday with you. Love you forever...

Roger was my roommate at USC. But "roommate" is an understatement. His family became my family and Roger was like a brother. We spent a summer in Europe together and he was Best Man at my wedding. He even dragged me to the Port of Los Angeles to serve as a practice coxswain. Those years were some of the best of my life and Roger will stay with me forever.

Although the Wilson class of 65 was large by standards I have to pause and think about the wonderful classmates that I knew. Rest in Peace Roger, those years at Wilson can never be replaced......

I'm so sorry to learn of Roger's passing. I hired Roger to teach students in an elective class about computers at Constellation Community Middle School many years ago. He also volunteered as a reading tutor to help students to elevate their reading level. Roger was so patient, nice and always had a ready smile. I want to express my sincere condolences to the family. Your loss is a loss to our community!

Dear Bonnie and family,
I am sorry to hear of Roger's passing. He was a good friend in high school. I remember the last time I saw Roger. He and three other good friends visited me during the 50th Wilson Reunion weekend. We had so much fun laughing and reminiscing. I will always remember him fondly. My sincere condolences to your family. Mark Eastman
