June 19, 1976 - June 1, 2016 Bill Klug, age 39, of El Segundo, California, died tragically on June 1, 2016 in a shooting in his office in UCLA's Engineering IV building. He was born in Torrance, CA, to Mary Jane and the late Kenneth Klug, and lived in Hermosa Beach until 1985 when the family moved to Palos Verdes Estates. Bill attended North School in Hermosa Beach, Riviera Hall Lutheran School, Palos Verdes High School, and Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, graduating in 1994. He earned his B.S. from Westmont College (1998), M.S. from UCLA (1999), and Ph.D. from Caltech (2003). A professor for thirteen years in UCLA's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, Bill is remembered by his students and colleagues as brilliant, caring, kind, compassionate, and humble. Bill's commitment to his family and Christian faith was evident to all who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary Elise; 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter; mother Mary Jane; brothers Jeffrey (Amy), and Andrew (Chizu); three nephews and one niece.
