I'm honored to have been of Evan's deep and long standing fans. He and Patti showed a deep degree of confidence in me and my company from its beginnings. That confidence in turn helped us all grow to our mutual benefit. Years ago, Evan and I were discussing a significant cost-control plan we had for a new investment and he responded that's a lot of el Pollo Loco!. This became our mutual code phrase for significant returns or savings. Evan, like Patti was an old-school expresser of gratitude in our conversations and many a hand-written note. I'd share these with the team as an example of how their work was acknowledged and appreciated.

He led a life of rich and varied experiences. Many of our projects were in out-of-the-way places which led to a slow unveiling of his life experiences in places like Iowa and Chehalis, Washington. He shared a birthday with my son and at a lunch to celebrate in downtown H.B., he shared his adventures serving in the Marine Corp which I had never had a clue about. His early experiences in construction were helpful in understanding the many fixer-upper type projects that we were involved in together.

Evan was a unique all-star who made a quiet, positive difference in the lives of many including my own. I will miss him.
