I am so sad to hear that Darlis has walked on. She had such an influence in my life, and many other Western historians--particularly in Western Women's history that she and Joan Jensen founded back in the 1980s. I will never forget our long chats going back to the 1990s at the WHA and HSNM conferences.
I know how she truly missed Gus, but I am sad she has left us.
Wishing the family and her extended family of historians hugs, love, and healing--and many happy memories of a life lived well.
RIP, my friend.

So sorry to hear of Darlis's passing. She and Joan Jensen were wonderful mentors to me during my first years of teaching at UT El Paso. Appreciated her calm, no nonsense approach to academic life.

I am truly saddened to learn of Darlis' death. We spent many happy times at various WHA conventions. I often consulted with her on my projects and made sure I bought copies of all of her books. We corresponded and spoke on the phone, but unfortunately not recently. Her work on women's history will remain her most important legacy.

Darlis was a dear friend and treasured colleague. I particularly value her contributions to the emerging field of Western Women's History in the 1980s and her active involvement in the Coalition for Western Women's History and the Western History Association. I will miss her very much.
