Joanie was one of the first people I met when I moved to Organ some 30 years ago. She made me feel welcome and like I was one of the flock.
I met my neighbors through Joanie. Many of those folks had been the bedrock of the community and made it what it was then, and is now. Too many of them have left us, but they're all in God's company, drinking a beer and laughing about jackasses being ridden through Ace's Place ..er.. City Hall. Joanie was the unofficial mayor of the town and, as far as I know, never had that title challenged. She earned the title by being open, warm, loving, intelligent and willing to teach a lesson now and then.
We miss you, old friend, but will see you in the sweet by and by.

Joanie was our Mom's best friend. She helped take care of Mom after she had heart surgery. It was such a big act of kindness that allowed me to return to work. She and Mom loved those slot machines! They worked together for the Merritt Group Sonic conventions. Every time I pass Joanie's home, I automatically look to see if she is outside so I can wave at her. She will be missed by so many people. Miss you Joanie!
