Mark Schoeppner Obituary

Mark "Shoepop" Schoeppner, 61, beloved husband, father, son, brother, "papa" and friend, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012. He left this world surrounded by his loved ones, having lived twice as long as he expected but half as long as he should have. Mark liked to race cars and shoot guns, and he was darned good at it. He worked like a mad man his whole life until he retired several years ago. Since then he spent his time relaxing in his big brown chair with the TV blaring and restoring cars and motorcycles. His garage was always open to the endless flow of visitors seeking his vast knowledge, opinions, or tools. He enjoyed family, cars, guns, cars, friends, guns, cars, grandkids, cars, motorcycles and guns. And cars. He was his wife's soul mate, his children's hero, his family's strength and his friends' shoulder. He was loved, praised, respected and poorly impersonated by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He cherished those closest to him, and he would do anything he could for them. The world has lost a class act, and heaven has gained an angel. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Merle Schoeppner. He is survived by wife Judy Schoeppner, daughter Kim Bartlett and husband Bryan, son Timothy Schoeppner and wife Kara, grandchildren Avery and Brycen Bartlett, mother Angie Schoeppner, sister Kathy Schoeppner, brothers Tim (Mitzie) and Steve (Carol) Schoeppner, Janet (Jack) Lamkin, Jack (Charlene) Curry, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Memorial Medical Center's CCU and the staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice. There will be a memorial mass held on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary. A celebration of Mark's life will follow, where you can tell his stories that he can no longer share. They won't be as good as him telling them, but we'll give it a shot!

I only met mark twice, but we are trying to build a track in the big bend, & I called him for some advice. I did not get answer, but he called back,& apoligized that he was in the hospital. After giving me a ton of information, he signed off, by saying, if I did not here from him again, that he didn't make it. This guy was special. Coach Tyree

We were sad to learn of Mark's passing. Mark worked hard and "played" hard, if working on cars is play! He was always ready to help people in need, including us with our loss. He will be missed and we hope the best for his family.

Kim, TJ, and Judy, Just want to say how sorry I am about your loss. So glad you have each other, family and friends to get you through this. Kent was one of those many young men that spent hours at your house and hours in your super duper garage fixing his car. Thank you Mark, Judy, TJ and Kim for making Kent feel so welcome. Wow Marky - Now I wish I would have kept in touch more lately.
Judy - I am sorry for your loss, but know this. You WILL have the chance to see him again in a better place. He may be gone from us for a while, but we will all live again, thanks to our Lord and Savior.
May the Lord bless the Schoeppner family. We will all miss him - for a while. Look at that smile. I bet he is joking with someone he knew that went before him. He still IS Mark Shoeppner!

One of my favorite memories of all time is of sitting out in the driveway at the Schoeppners' during a beautiful, peaceful sunset, while Eric and Mark talked guns, bullets, beer, trucks, and a little bit of politics, and laughed their butts off. Mark was one of those people who never met a stranger - anyone you brought to his house was immediately a friend, and welcomed in with open arms by Mark and Judy. After God made Mark, He broke the mold. If I had known that when I saw him back in August, that would be the last time, there are so many things I would have thanked him for. So I'll just say now: Mark, thanks for always welcoming me and my family into your home. I hope to see you on the other side someday. Keep the drinks cold and the grill hot for us. Love to all the Schoeppners, our thoughts and prayers are with you. From Amy, Eric and Kenneth Lahti.
