Mel, was a good friend but a even better person. I met Mel on the basketball court at White Sands. I loved his competitive spirit and BB skills. We would play hard against each other, pushing, fouling and arguring. Then after the games we would pick up our friendship forgetting about the games. I retired from WSMR in 2009 and moved to Georgia. I returned to WSMR in 2012 and stopped by the Gym to see Mel. He was out to lunch so I waited. We reminisced and talked current life. Before I left I told Mel I was proud of his work accomplishments from when he first came to WSMR to where he was then (2012). He said he really appreciated that. We gave each other a hug and said we both said take care. We became Facebook Friends. We were able to see what was going in each's life. So I say goodbye to Mel, but for good people like Mel he'll never fade from my thoughts. Good peeps are hard to Come by.
