John C. Heisey

Palmyra - John Carper Heisey, 97, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Londonderry Village. Born Tuesday, September 14, 1920 in Palmyra, he was the son of Ralph B. and Sadie (Carper) Heisey. He was married to Alma (Phibbs) Heisey, also of Londonderry Village. John's first wife, Anna King Heisey, passed away in August of 2003.

John was retired from Maryland Casualty Co., where he was a commercial insurance underwriter. He was a lifelong member of Palmyra Church of the Brethren. He served as a member of the Rotary Club of Palmyra and was named a Paul Harris fellow, the highest honor a Rotary Club can bestow on an individual. He served for many years as a Director of the Central Penn AAA. He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Army Inspector General Corps. John loved singing and sang in his church choirs for more than 70 years. He was an avid gardener, and he also enjoyed traveling, golf, fishing, reading, and family.

Other surviving family include daughter, Julie Ann Heisey of Steelton; son, John King Heisey and wife, Bernie of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Katherine Brumberg and husband, Peter of State College, Anne Heisey of Pittsburgh, and John A. Heisey and wife, Jill of Doylestown; three great-grandchildren, Cooper, Oliver and Stella Brumberg; stepchildren, Gary W. Kitchen and wife, Mindy of Elizabethtown, Sharon Cole and husband, Tom of Middletown, Mary Patricia Smith of Hummelstown, Michael C. Smith and wife, Faith of Hummelstown and Debbie Smith Hillard and husband, Patrick of Salisbury, NC; three step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. John also had two sisters, Nancy Gerber of Palmyra who survives him and Mildred Musser of Columbia who predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 N. Chestnut Street, Palmyra, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Internment will take place in a private ceremony. Arrangements entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Palmyra.

John was a loving man and well loved by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Palmyra Church of the Brethren or The Smile Train.
