Charles Edwards Kerr
Dobbs Ferry - Charles Edward Kerr, a longtime resident of Middletown, NY, died peacefully on November 30, 2017 at Cabrini of Westchester. He was 79.
The son of the late, Anna (Reilly) and John Kerr, he was born on January 19, 1938 in New York, NY. He grew up in Washington Heights, New York City. Better known as "Chuck," he married Jean Anne Kerr on October 11, 1969 in New York City.
He served two years in the United States Army at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He retired in 2001 from Inserra Supermarkets, Inc, and was a member of UFCW Local 1262. Charles and his wife, Anne, were faithful parishioners of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown, NY.
As a young boy, Chuck could always be found playing baseball with his brothers and friends in the neighborhood. He was chosen to play baseball for the Journal American Allstars and was eventually drafted to play for the minor leagues before entering the Army. Chuck was a great dancer who loved doing the Lindy with his beautiful wife and dance floor partner. They also shared a love for golfing. A trivia expert, he could always impress with his knowledge of baseball, football, history and classic movies. Chuck was an avid Mets and Giants fan. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of forty-five years, Jean Anne (Joyce) Kerr. He is survived by his three daughters: Joyce Casey and her husband P.R. of Columbus, OH, Jean Therese Kerr of Yonkers, NY, and Deborah Maguire and her husband, John, of Sparkill, NY. He is also survived by his two sisters: Ann Cacciaguida and Virginia Kern, both of New Jersey, and his seven beloved grandchildren, Reilly, Kayla, Rowan, Anna, Delaney, Moira and Patrick. He is also predeceased by his brothers Edward, John "Buddy", William, Joseph and his sisters Mary, Margaret, and Gloria.
Visitation 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday Dec. 5, 2017 at Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church 417 Broadway Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522. Funeral procession will follow afterward to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Charles's name may be made to the Center for Dementia Research at www.cdr.rfmh.org.

I remember Chuck from 173 rd street in Washington heights. He was an outstanding athlete. He was a few years older than me and I always looked up to him and would try to imitate him when I played baseball and basketball. Thanks Chuck. May he rest in Peace.

I remember Chuck's unique laugh which could be heard as he watched from his front porch as his three adorable daughters played games in the neighborhood on Crescent Place in Middletown.
