Elinor Josephine Haight
Briarcliff Manor - Elinor Josephine Haight of Briarcliff Manor, NY, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home on January 8. She was born in Bartlesville, OK on October 3, 1922. She grew up in Altadena, CA and was raised by her late parents Katherine and Arnold Horning. Elinor graduated Pasadena Junior College with honors and went on to attend UCLA and Washington State College where she joined and was initiated into Chi Omega Sorority. While at Washington State College, Elinor trained and became a United Airlines stewardess. Elinor went on to serve at United Airlines from 1943-1946 where she assisted the war effort as a senior stewardess aboard the DC-3 Mainliner. While working she then met her future husband David and married him in Arlington, VA on March 27th, 1948. Inspired by her early years as an airline stewardess, Elinor was an avid world traveler and a master bridge player. Over a span of seven decades she won over 100 championships and 60 marathon tournaments. Elinor was predeceased by her husband David L. her younger sister Janet Tubelle, her daughter-in-law Yolanda and her first child David A. She is survived by her other 3 children, Doug, Andrew, and Diane Angst and her 4 grandchildren Andrew, Aaron, Diana and Katherine Angst. Reposing, Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home on Saturday Jan. 12, 2019 from 4-8PM. Funeral Service, Scarborough Presbyterian Church 655 Scarborough Rd. Scarborough, NY 10510 on Sun. Jan 13, 2019 at 9AM. Interment, Friends Quaker Meeting House, 4455 Purchase St. Purchase, NY 10604 to follow.
