I knew Harriet when I was a boy. During the early days, my Dad Edward Lucas, or sometimes called Uncle Eddie who is Aunt Marie's brother, would visit Uncle Harry & Aunt Marie down in Yonkers, at their 3 story, 3 family house. Our family being from Connecticut, did not always have the time to visit often. My Dad was very close to his sister Marie which is Harriet's mom. When my dad would visit, I would often go upstairs to Harriet's & Uncle Bob's 3rd floor apartment, and play with Cousin Bobby. My sister Marion would play with Debbie and Pam. I thought it was the coolest thing, us country folks visiting with city folks In the city, everything seems like on a fast track, with so many more things happening. One thing I remember most, is how full of life Harriet was, and always happy to chat and make everyone feel good and have a fun time together.
Many many years later, I had the occasion to meet Harriet again, down in Florida, when I was on a business trip to Orlando for a few weeks. Having little to do on the weekend, I was wondering if I had a relative close by in that area. I was surprised that Harriet and Jackie lived not too far away in a town called Palm Coast.
I asked if I could visit for a day on the weekend, and Harriet was glad to have me stop over. She even let me stay the night. Well, she knew so much about my family, Uncle Joe Lucas, Aunt Betty, Aunt Frannie and my Dad Ed Lucas, that we talked constantly for two days straight without stopping. Do you believe that! Harriet was a great conversationalist! Not too many people could top her. She also showed me around and we went by the intracoastal waterway, and visited the beautiful hard sand beaches that everyone drove their cars on, like a roadway. It was terrific! I can see why she moved down there to Palm Coast in Florida for all those later years It was beautiful down there. She even got Jackie to move nearby next to her, right across the street. It was a very special visit to be with Harriet for the day down there in Florida, and what impressed me the most, was how happy she was and how she liked to have fun sharing moments with the family. She is a very special person, and she liked other people to enjoy themselves too! Even though I am a distant relative, she made a great impact, and I will miss the joy in life she showed everyone. God Bless!
