Robert D'Agostino Obituary

Robert D'Agostino

Tuckahoe - Robert "Bob" D'Agostino, 85, of Tuckahoe, NY, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 at his home surrounded by his immediate family.

Bob was born June 20, 1934 in Bronxville, NY to John and Mary (née Benedetto) D'Agostino. He graduated from Eastchester High School in 1952; some of his fondest memories there were as a star athlete, playing football, baseball and basketball. He later attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, graduating with honors in 1956. Bob traveled the world as a merchant marine before marrying the former Trudy Ecks on Nov. 17, 1956. They were married for 52 years until her death in 2008.

Bob's professional life was wide-ranging and varied while his family life remained a constant. He was employed as a mechanical engineer, originally at Sperry Gyroscope, working on systems that would later be used in the U.S. space program. Later in life he embarked on a successful real estate investment career with his wife. He was also well-known for writing a weekly column for the local newspaper, The Eastchester Record. Bob was elected Village Trustee in Tuckahoe in 1965 and served as Mayor from 1967 - 1975. He was also a classic car collector and was active with several local auto clubs. After retiring, Bob volunteered at S.C.O.R.E. in White Plains, a partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) where he enjoyed sharing his many years of business experience counseling entrepreneurs and mentoring aspiring business owners. Bob especially loved spending time with his family who still relied on him for his wisdom and advice in all matters great and small. He found special joy in cheering on his grandson on the football field of his old alma mater, Eastchester High School. Bob was lucky to find love and companionship later in life with his partner Mary Ann.

Services will be held at the Bennett Funeral Home at 824 Scarsdale Ave, Scarsdale NY on Thursday, August 15th from 4:00 - 8:00pm. A funeral service will follow on Friday, August 16th at 9:30am at Assumption Church, 100 Pleasant Ave, Tuckahoe NY. Bob is survived by his sisters (Rosemary Natarelli and Tina Droukas) children (Lynn, Susan, John and Robert) grandchildren (Darren, Robert, Sarah, Max, Julia and Christian), great-grandchildren (Devon and Sienna) and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Bob touched many lives, was greatly loved and will be sorely missed. Well Done Pop!
