Plate, Fred
Fred Plate, a longtime resident of Orangeburg, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2017 at the Buckingham at Norwood Care Center. He was born in Manhattan to Fritz and Hedwig Plate on April 28, 1929. Fred was a sea going Marine and served as a drill instructor from 1947 to 1951 before being honorably discharged. He was a police officer for the Port of Authority of NY & NJ for 20 years before retiring in 1973. After retiring, he worked at Marine Midland Bank in Nyack and Blue Cross Blue Shield in New York City. Fred was parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt. He enjoyed managing the New York Yankees from his couch, working in his yard and vacationing on Long Beach Island with his family.
Fred was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn, who died on June 29, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Diane; his children, Deborah Owen (Gregory), Jeanne Martin (Kevin) and David Plate (Catherine); his eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 10am, at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Tappan Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday, 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ARC of Rockland would be greatly appreciated (845-267-2500 or www.arcofrockland.org).

My father in law, Fred, was an honorable man, a father, husband, grandpa and great grandpa. He was also a Marine who served our country. Glad I knew this man.
