Herman, Nicole Giselle
Nicole Giselle Herman, 63 of Montebello, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a devout Catholic of deep faith. She enjoyed dancing, music, politics, art, decorating, fashion, travel, and all things French. Nicole loved to teach and felt that educating children was her calling. She taught French at Suffern Middle School for 10 years and grew the program over the years, due to her enthusiasm and commitment to her students.
She was a positive, caring, funny, and smart woman who was also feisty. Nicole was a fighter, with the rare ability to find hope and positivity in every situation. Along with "Nikki's Rack Pack," she supported Making Strides Against Breast Cancer since 1994 and walked annually to raise money for breast cancer research.
Nicole loved to travel. She had an especially memorable trip to Europe where she took the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship to England and traveled to many countries including Italy, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Hungary—ending with a weeklong stay in France with her family. Other memorable trips included a two-week train tour around the US with her husband and annual trips to Quebec with her French students.
Nicole loved her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Vincent; cherished daughters Ingrid and Alexa; loving son-in-law Andrew; devoted mother Beverly; caring sisters Saidii, Juli, and Farah; and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4th and Sunday, November 5th from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY. It was with deep sorrow, that we learned of the loss of sweet Nicole; a lovely lady ( and role model - as caring big sister, wife and mother). I recall over 40 years ago, when I first met Nicole, while my dearest friend, her Sister Saidii and I were students at St. Francis Prep H.S.. Nicole so generously and kindly drove us all around Queens, assisting in our seeking part-time employment opportunities. She always led to what was best for us. Memories follow, including Nicole lovingly mothering her two young daughters Ingrid and Alexa, while we visited their High-Rise apartment, and of course lively discussions with both Nicole and her Husband Vin. Saidii and all of her Sisters, including Nicole, and Mother Beverly, always made me feel like family. There is such Godly love present in the Batroni Ladies Hearts. Among beautiful memories shared, are many happy occasions with Nicole and Family, including Mothers Day at Mohonk Mountain House, in the 1990s. Several years later in 2000, I recall how we truly received joy, by watching Nicole, Saidii, Juli and Farah enthusiastically dancing together to the song " We Are Family; I've Got All My Sisters With Me ", at our daughter Angelinas Christening Celebration. Nicoles Life was a Gift to us, and to many, many others. Thanks be to God, for honoring us with her love. Delicate yet firm, soft-spoken yet strong, Nicole will always be remembered as a calm and peaceful presence. Praying through our grief, for her Family Members and Friends, that Nicole shall remain close in our hearts and forever in Glory with God. Amen. Blessings From: Linda Yankoschuk Di Carlo, Spouse Douglas and Daughter Angelina

Madame was not only an amazing teacher, but an amazing person. Her love and passion for French has always driven me to continue with the language, even as a junior in high school. Rest in peace Madame. Tu me manques beaucoup <3

I met Nicole at several Meet the Teacher Nights and parent teacher conferences when her daughters Ingrid and Alexa were my students at Suffern High School. I was always happy to inform her that her two daughters were excellent students who thrived on the political debates we had in class. Later I conferred with Nicole as fellow colleagues in the same school district.
Nicole was warm, outgoing, and smart in our conversations. I recall us talking about the immense importance of studying a second language. A number of Nicole's former students mentioned her superb teaching skills when we discussed issues related to the French language.
My heart goes out to her husband Vincent, to Ingrid, Alexa, and the rest of her family.

Madame Herman touched our hearts and shared our Lily's love of all things French. We are so grateful Lily's first experience learning the language was with Madame, and she'll be in our hearts always...The Pampolina Family

Madame Herman gave my daughter Nicole her love of French in 6th grade. She and her friends at school were very upset yesterday to learn of her passing. She was a great teacher!

We know Nicole to be a strong woman warrior who would live life to its fullest. Her faith has certainly insured us that Nicole is now in heaven in God's hands. Her life was cut too short, but she touched many people along the way with her beautiful smile and character. We pray for her family, Vin, Ingrid, Alexa and family. May they find peace in knowing that they did their very best to show her their love and keep her going.
