Virginia Jannacone

Hartsdale - Virginia Toni "Ginny" Jannacone, age 76, formerly of Eastchester, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2021, after a long battle with chronic illness. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on November 5, 1944, to parents Anthony and Virginia Poniatowski (née Giannantonio).

She is survived by her loving husband Norman of 50 years; her two children Kristin and Gregory; and Gregory's wife Lauren Sanders and their son Griffin. She is also survived by her sister Susan DuBois (née Poniatowski), Susan's husband Charles "Chuck," and their two children Evan and Elizabeth.

Ginny earned her master's degree in early childhood education from the College of New Rochelle in 1982. She worked as an educator for over 35 years fulfilling many roles in her career: classroom teacher, reading enrichment, school treasurer and even staff development. She taught at P.S. 205 Fiorello LaGuardia, in the Bronx, for 29 years, where she retired. She was widely respected for her years of service, dedication and conscientiousness.

Ginny was known for her beautiful smile, gentle nature, dedication to her family, strong religious faith, resiliency, passion for teaching, her adoration of cats and bunnies, and her love for cooking. A treasured recipe is her eggplant parmesan, which was and is loved by so many people. She was very devoted to her Roman Catholic faith, and served as a Eucharistic minister in earlier years. She approached life with a positive attitude and demonstrated grace under pressure during difficult times. Ginny's memory will live on forever.

There will be a funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe on Tuesday Feb. 23 at 9:30 am. Entombment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
