Betty was more like an Aunt to me. She was one of my favorite people. She had the energy and the drive that her parents had. Many of the "cousins" are now gone. I'll never forget her. I remember when she came back from California in the early 60's. she built her home, perched high on the Knobs, overlooking New Albany. She had brilliant, red hair in my first memory. She was stunningly beautiful. I thought she was a movie star. She worked hard, took care of her family and her beautiful horses. She loved her farm where she lived with Bill Lester for many years. Her house was her dream house. They were always so comfortable there. One thing I need to say is Bless her forever. When my Grandmother, Catherine VonAllmen was very ill, Betty took her into her home to recuperate for several weeks because we all had jobs and couldn't provide care for her. My Grandmother lived with Ted and Eleanor VonAllmen when Betty and Jack were very young and helped raise them. It was then that she became reacquainted with my Grandfather, Bob VonAllmen and soon thereafter, married him. The marriage of 2 Payne sisters and 2 VonAllmen brothers created "double cousins". My Mother, Gloria and my Uncles were all double cousins with Jack and Betty. All of the family were very close. The days of so many parties and picnics is now gone, and I pray they are all up in heaven sitting under a beautiful tree, way out in the country, together again. What a lovely dream that is. I'm now very far away in California, but I have such wonderful memories of Betty and all of our family. I am truly a blessed person to have known her and all of the VonAllmen's and Payne's. They are/were extraordinary people.
