As a self-appointed member of the freaks & geeks community in an all-girls private high school, Joel was definitely one of my favorite staff members at Assumption. He celebrated oddness and always demonstrated a joy for life. I'll never forget running into him at a ZZ Top concert in high school. He was sporting his "cheap sunglasses" and putting every inch of that glorious red mane to use in some epic rock n roll head bobbing. He acted like he wasn't embarrassed at all to be enthusiastically greeted outside of school by a couple of teenage groupies. He was always incredibly kind and genuine and a refreshing personality among so many other adults in our lives that just took themselves too darn seriously. Rest easy, Joel. You will be missed.

I was a student at St. Raphael and Assumption when Joel was the custodian. We all loved Joel. He was a hoot. Every now and then, he'd do something hilarious like walk past the door in slow motion and make faces at us. My friend and I would hang out near St. Raphael in the summers, and Joel would be clearing out all of the old sodas from the machines, which we could have for free. He was such a nice guy and very hard working. I remember when he delivered pizzas to our family too! He made school a better place, and I know that all of us remember him very fondly.

Nace & Rita Jo I'm very sorry for your loss. I look back at time at St. Raphael working with Sam, Joel & Nace as some of the most fun times growing up. Memories of Joel will always bring a smile to my face (El Cajoel). My thoughts & prayers are with you and your families.
Sincerely,
Lance

Every year since as far back as I can remember, I would run into Joel once or twice, and after reminiscing for a while and hearing one or two of his off- color jokes, I would always come away feeling lucky to know a great guy like him! - I'll miss you Joel!
