JoAnn and I hit it off immediately when we first met on the day she came into Rider's Hobby Shop, shortly before Christmas back in 1997, to buy some Babylon 5 CCG cards. We quickly bonded over our love of Star Trek, Babylon 5, and science fiction & fantasy in general. When I suggested that she apply for the position of the Lansing area "Ranger" for the Babylon 5 collectible card game, she jumped on the idea and got the job which she took to heart and enjoyed very much. Over the intervening years, we spent a lot of time with friends playing card games and board games, caught many movies together, and attended lots of Star Trek, science fiction, comic, and game conventions as a duo or with a group. Together we both saw/met William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Marina Sirtis, George Takei, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, Mira Furlan (Delenn of B5), David Prowse (Darth Vaders body), Jeremy Bulloch (the original Boba Fett), and dozens of others from all aspects of that genres entertainment world.

At Origins in 1998, where we had our picture taken with Prowse and Bulloch, she was one of several Rangers that participated in a B5 CCG championship tournament. While she did not win, she was a skilled player and made it to the semi-finals (top sixteen) out of a field of nearly one hundred contestants.

Ill miss her, and yet I wont; Ill feel her presence every time I watch a TV show or a film that I know shed have loved; I dont think a day will go by that I wont think of her. Ill never forget her laugh or that one-eye-squinted-look that shed give me when Id crack an exceptionally-off-the-wall pun. I last saw her just over three months ago, we went out to dinner, and then watched the first two seasons of Journey Quest, which I had brought with me to Lansing; that night she let me know that it would very likely be the last time that we spent together. We both had a hard time letting go of that last hug.
