Richard Potter Obituary

Richard Clark Potter

Charlotte, MI

Richard Clark Potter, 87 years old of Charlotte, MI was called home to Heaven on September 24, 2017. Born August 10, 1930 to Harvey and Marcia (Stone) Potter, he graduated from Hudson High School in 1949, Adrian College in 1960 (B.S.) and Wayne State University in 1966 (M.S). He taught math in the Monroe Public Schools for 35 years.

Richard is survived by his wife, Priscilla; children, Julie (Jim) Keenan, William (Barbara Bialko) Potter, Linda (Jon) Dickinson, and was predeceased by son, Michael Potter. He was also a proud grandfather of 7, Melissa, Sarah, Jeffrey, Marcia, Scott, Nathaniel and Emily and also a great-grandfather of 11, Jackson, Preston, Charlotte, Ellie, Evelyn, Addison, Ethan, Lola, Weston, Mason and Madison.

Richard was a man of service, dedicating himself for two years in the Army during the Korean War, Monroe City Council member for 12 years, attending First Baptist Church, as a Forgotten Man jail minister, and as a member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion. He was loved and considered a kind man by all who knew him.

He also had a passion for golfing and could be seen with his many friends at Maple Brook Golf Club, Centennial Acres Golf Course, Olivet Golf Club, Green Meadows Golf Club and other favorite courses. As a natural teacher, he also gave golf lessons to many members of his family.

Richard loved his wife Priscilla, a lot. They started going steady in 8th grade and spent the next 73 years together, almost 67 years as husband and wife after being married in Hudson, MI, September 30, 1950. He once brought an entire wedding reception to tears as he described to the young wedding couple just what true love is.

He loved to introduce his family to his friends and acquaintances. Seeing how they received us, we could see what they thought of him. We were, and always will be, proud to be Dick Potter's family. He was a good man.

A memorial service in celebration of Dick's life is planned for Sunday, October 1, 2017, 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Charlotte, 1110 S. Cochran Ave.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services, from 1 to 2:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Forgotten Man Ministries or the Kiwanis Club of Charlotte.  Friends and family are encouraged to share memories of Dick on his Tribute Page at www.PrayFuneral.com.
