Floydada - Bobby Welborn, age 82, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Bible Baptist Church in Floydada. Interment will follow at the Floyd County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 16, 2021 in the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
Bobby Mack Welborn was born February 13, 1939 in Floydada to James (J.D.) and Ermon (Kelsey) Welborn. After attending Floydada public schools, Bobby served in the US Army for 3 years. On December 31, 1959, he married the love of his life, Nancy Lou Hammons at the Calvary Baptist Church in Floydada, and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years together.
Bobby worked as the Superintendent for the City of Floydada water department for many years retiring in 2000. He also served his community as Chief of the Floydada Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. Those who remember Bobby will never forget his passion for laying down his life for others. He was so gifted in his skill as a firefighter that he also served as an Instructor at the A&M Fire School for 30 years. Bobby was very competitive in all his endeavors like fire competitions, canasta, but especially dominoes. If you knew Bobby, you knew how proud he was of his 18 trophies he won at the Welborn Family Reunions. Other hobbies he enjoyed were playing spades, fishing, but most importantly, spending time with his family. Bobby was also an active participant in his church, Bible Baptist Church, serving as both a deacon and teaching Sunday School.
Those left to cherish Bobby's memory are his wife, Nancy; two children, David Welborn and wife Rhona of Slaton, TX, and Lisa Welborn of New Deal, TX; three grandchildren, Ryan Welborn, Lindsey and husband Tory Smith, Cody Welborn and his wife Amy; one great-grandson, Browen; two sisters, Donna Booth of Burleson, TX and JoAnn Gooch of Floydada, TX.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eunice Lewis; and a brother, James Welborn.
