Cassandra “Sandy” Roberson of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Henderson Hospital following a sudden illness.
Sandy was born Cassandra Marie Doane on July 2, 1952, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Ralph L. Doane, an officer in the US Army Motor Corp, and Mary Anne (Hicks) Doane. The nature of military life necessitated frequent moves to various postings during her early life, including Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY, Chattanooga, TN, and Würzburg, Germany. She often reminisced about the family's adventures abroad and retained a love of traveling throughout her life.
After graduating from Chattanooga Central High School, Sandy married and had two children with James Stewart Roberson, and they were later divorced. She worked at Our Lady of Assumption Elementary School as a Librarian’s Assistant, and was a Girl Scouts Troop leader for many years while her children were growing up. With her bright and outgoing nature, Sandy excelled in her career as an Executive Assistant at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, followed by The Oklahoma State University Foundation, and in other administrative positions for much of her life.
Sandy loved telling stories and would often strike up conversations with strangers, making connections wherever she went. A gourmet food enthusiast, she always had a restaurant recommendation, and enjoyed joining friends on trips to Las Vegas and cruises to Alaska and Europe. In recent years she nurtured a scrapbooking passion, creating a valuable record of her family's accomplishments and heritage, and she taught scrapping classes to friends and neighbors. Since relocating from San Antonio to Las Vegas in June 2018, she attended shows, sampled restaurants, and visited the occasional slot machine.
She is survived by her daughter Teri (and her husband Daniel) Schweitzer of Chickaloon, Alaska; son Tony (and his wife Joanna) Roberson of Henderson, Nevada; four grandchildren; her children's families by marriage; a niece and nephew; cousins; and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by sister Patricia.
The family will gather for a private remembrance in the coming months. In honor of Sandy's storyteller spirit, loved ones are invited to share their memories here or on her Facebook page. Just finding out about this, the last timeI saw Sandy was at her house in Oklahoma. I was driving one of my students that I was fostering across country from LA to see her Dad, that I had found for her. Sandy made us both feel welcome. When I lived in Vegas she came to visit too. Sandy was in our Baby Boomer's Chat room and I was responsible for putting her and Mick together. She will surely be missed.

Sandy was like my sister. We loved traveling - especially cruises...She was my partner in silliness and mischief. Met over 20 yrs ago and remained friends throughout those years. Sandy was extremely witty, humorous, intelligent, she loved good food, good company, she loved her family so very much. She was so happy to be in Nevada. She loved it there... She could get out and have a great meal and hit the slots and meet new people. Sandy didn't know a stranger. My heart is broken but save me a place next to you. Til we meet again my friend.

I put an entry here and left out our names. Barry and Donna Lombardo. We met Sandy and she was a wonderful person and friend. We met years ago in a place called Baby Boomers. We will miss her always.

I met Sandy many years back in a place called the Baby Boomer chat room. How I grew to adore her right away. She was and always was fun, witty, caring and had a contagious laugh. She will be remembered by my husband Barry and me with love, affection and friendship. She was so happy now living where she was and had found such peace. We will always keep her in our hearts.

Sandy and I met at Tyner Junior High School in the 1960s. Just recently, I met her son Tony here in Las Vegas and learned that she was living here. We connected and planned a get-together. Sadly, we did not see each other. I am so sad. I have shared this information with our Tyner and Central High School friends. Sandy is remembered fondly by all of us. May God bless Sandy and her family.

Sandy and I were friends at Central. Back in the day we were required to embroider first initial and last name on our gym shorts.
She looked at mine and nicknamed me Baycock(B. Aycock)! She became Sdoane.
Her smile and personality lit up the room when she entered. I loved her for being there when I needed a friend.
My thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort to all of her family.
Sdoane, you will be missed.
