ALTON CATHEY Obituary

ALTON JACK CATHEY Alton Jack Cathey passed away December 21, 2018, in Nathan Adelson Hospice at the age of 88. He was born June 13, 1930, in Rillito, AZ, the 10th child of Albert J. Cathey and Laura M. Cathey. Jack was a graduate of ASU and began his professional career as a high school choral director at Westwood High School in Mesa, Arizona. He continued his musical life as director and/or soloist for church choirs and community chorales in Mesa, Prescott, Flagstaff and Las Vegas. He became Dean of Students at Prescott College and later Assistant Dean of Admissions and Records at Northern Arizona University. In 1985 he transitioned into full time counseling as a Marriage and Family Therapist until retirement. He was preceded in death by all his siblings. He is survived by wife, Carol; sons, Steven Cathey and Doug Cathey; daughter-in-law, Missie Cathey; stepson, Brad Zentmyer; stepdaughter, Julia Zentmyer; grandsons, Nick Cathey and wife, Francine, Scott Cathey and wife, Cassie and Evan Tafralian; granddaughters, Marissa Cathey and Makenzie Tafralian; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sat., Feb. 16, at the Center for Spiritual Living (formerly Church of Religious Science,) 1420 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119. Donations may be made to the Foundation to Assist Young Musicians at theFAYM.org.
