STEPHEN HERMANSON 6-13-42 to 2-5-19 Stephen (Steve) Hermanson passed after a brief fight with cancer. He lived in Story City, IA, until graduating from high school in 1960. He attended Northrup Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, receiving a Federal A&P License, and began a career spanning almost 40 years in the commercial airline industry. He started his career with Western Airlines in San Francisco and retired from Delta Airlines in Las Vegas. Steve's variety of interests resulted in his accumulating many friends in all walks of life. In San Francisco he had a small aircraft pilot's license and enjoyed collecting antiques; In Las Vegas he raised, trained and showed quarter horses; he loved anything related to sailing and sailing history; he spent many happy hours scuba diving in Hawaii; he played recreational softball for 10 years; he enjoyed fishing, especially in Alaska; he enjoyed collecting antiques and he was in the process of restoring a 1967 Mustang. Steve's garage was an eclectic and interesting hangout, and friends could always find him there tinkering with the project of the moment. Steve and his wife, of 52 years, Becky, enjoyed traveling and, as well as their annual schooner sailing cruise off the coast of Maine, their interest in history took them on many trips to Europe, including several to England, Norway and France. Their 50th anniversary found them zip-lining seven times across Maui and dancing to Hawaiian music at a luau. Steve leaves behind his wife, Becky; sisters; brothers; and relatives in Iowa; and the many close friends and coworkers that have been a wonderful part of his life. Steve believed that "life is like a book, with all the chapters leading to the wonderful chapter at the end." Steve is now starting that wonderful chapter.
