I have no words for how much Carol Shipley meant to me. She encouraged me to read and write poetry and shared astonishing new work in poetry with me. I'd never have gone forward in writing and literature without her mentoring and knowledge of the field. My condolences to her family. She was a powerhouse of a mind, and she gave me wings!

Very sad to hear of your loss. I was also in a couple of 'Mrs. Shipley's ' classes in the 70's. Such a fantastic teacher! She made it fun, which helped us all to learn. She was 'one of those teachers' that I have great memories of and would mention her fondly when talking about 'those days and teachers'. I know I'm not alone in these feelings - please know that she made a difference to many.

Mrs. Shipley was my teacher when I was in high school. Then we were colleagues when I returned as a teacher. She was very classy and an example for those of us who came after her. May you be comforted by happy memories! Prayers and blessings, Rev. Dr. Gloria Wade Dillon, ZHS '73

My deepest sympathy to the family. Mrs. Shipley was my teacher in the 70's and convinced me that I could go to college. I became the first person in my family to receive a college degree, thanks to her encouragement. Kim Settles Schramm

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
