CARROLL L. SAWYER
1952 - 2018
BELGRADE - Carroll L. Sawyer, 65, of Wings Mills Road passed away on Feb. 18, 2018, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta on July 17, 1952, the son of the late Chester and Bertha (Bickford) Sawyer.
Carroll graduated from Messalonskee High School in 1970 and later received an accounting degree from the Gates Business School. He did accounting at Lipman Poultry, but didn't like the indoor life, so he switched to a night job with Shaw's. This change allowed him to pursue what he really loved in life, hunting and fishing. Carroll spent all his free time outdoors, training beagles for rabbit hunting, collecting deer heads to adorn every wall of his house, as well as many prize fish. Hunting was his special passion, and he hunted everything in its season. Carroll collected many different animal pelts and dabbled in taxidermy. His mounted collection included foxes, coyotes, muskrats, weasels, and a raccoon.
Carroll was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Sharon; his sister, Arlene Ashland, brother-in-law, Victor Ashland, and his sister, Annie Shivers.
He is survived by his son Jeremy and his grandson Caden; his sister Alice Damren and her husband Floyd; brother-in-law Eric Shivers; nieces Cindy Kennedy and Pam Prescott, nephews Raymond and Brian Ashland; and many beloved great-nephews and nieces who helped keep his spirit young. No one could help his ailing body.
The family would like to greatly thank Bruce and Mary Galouch, Caleb Jones, Carl Poole, and many other wonderful friends for their acts of kindness and support during Carroll's illness.
A graveside service will be held this spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade.

Well Carroll, our time roaming the woods together has ended. You now are with Bertha, Chester, Ding, Ray, and Sharon. Take a dog and run some of those rabbits we hunted together. We WILL meet again.
