Hal was one of a kind. He was, of course, one of the busiest drummers during those years during which we were all working practically around the clock. But, he was also the source of an endless supply of jokes. There were many times when it was these jokes that brightened a boring session or loosened the tension during a trying session. I was with him on a double session at Capitol and on the lunch break, we walked down Hollywood Bl. We saw this little store that advertised personalized items such as cards and stationery and rubber stamps for addressing envelopes. Hal suggested we both get one. I got one that showed my name and address. Hal got one that said, "Hal Blaine strikes again." Soon, that "logo" was seen stamped on every drum part he played as well as on the walls of all the drum booths and baffles in all the studios in town.
He was a colleague and a good buddy for years.

Hal was a great guy inspiring to all drummers. In my experience with Hal, it was always about what he could do for everyone else. We both played the drums for Gary Lewis and Hal was just a wonderful friend and mentor. I'm so glad he got to spend the time he did with his daughter and her family. With Hal Blaine, the beat will always go on. Hal thanks for being such a nice guy to me. Michelle my condolences and prayers for your wonderful family. Kindest Regards-Tim Wirth
