My Dear Sister whom I loved. You made my many visits to Maine happy and wonderful experiences. I already miss you so much. Our personal phone calls kept us close across the many miles.

It is with great sorrow to hear that we have lost our beloved Lou. There will be less laughter here on earth as we ponder questions and tickle our brains to find solutions. Lou had a way with dealing with everything. She was not only a mentor but a very dear friend. I met Lou and Loren one day when they came into our little cafe tucked amidst our stores. It was the beginning of a great friendship. Together, they spread love and kindness wherever they went. The stories of their children and their families were told with such zest that you just wanted to be a part of it all. I find comfort in knowing they are again reunited and send love to their beautiful family.

To the Downey family: I knew and loved both Lu and Loren through a number of years in which we worked together at First Parish Church, was part of many conversations in what we called "The Upper Room" at the farmhouse, and helped craft the ONA statement later adopted by FPC, aided by Lu and Loren, in their dining room. Lu and I were having lunch when news of the church fire reached us. Through all of that, I am one of many who grew to love her, appreciate her wisdom and look forward to any opportunity to spend time with her. I've been away from Saco now for a long time, but Lu, and the example she set, has never been far from my heart. I have not known a finer couple than Lu and Loren. I hope you take comfort in knowing that they were dearly loved by their Maine community and will be greatly missed for their many accomplishments as well as their very good hearts.
