Bessie Marie Heimberger
LOUDONVILLE: Bessie Marie Heimberger, 90 of Loudonville, died early Thursday morning, May 2, in Hillen Vale at Ameritus, Mount Vernon, following an extended illness.
Bessie was born November 29, 1922 in Greer, the daughter of the late Herman and Sibyl (Gordon) Strang. She was a 1940 graduate of Danville High School and on March 5, 1942 she married Kenneth R. Heimberger, and he died January 15, 2008.
Bessie had been a Loudonville area resident most of her life, other than the 20 years she spent in Florida following her retirement. She owned and operated the Calico Greenhouse and Flower Shop near Loudonville for many years until she and her late husband Kenneth retired in 1983. Bessie loved working in the greenhouse, floral arranging, and later in life she discovered her love of oil painting.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Eugene "Gene" (Shirley) Heimberger of Loudonville, and Roger (Sharon) Heimberger of Wooster; two daughters, Donna Martinelli of Columbus, and Monna Sparks of Port Orange, FL; 17 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; a sister, Sara Martin of Loudonville; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Trumpower Strang of Sedalia, KS and Frances Myers Strang of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, John, Jim and Glenn Strang; and two sisters, Ethel Toms and Lucille Payne.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 11:00am in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE, with Rev. John Van Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the funeral home.
