Cletus Kurtzman was my friend. I worked with him in 1987 at NRRL Peoria and remained in touch ever since. His contribution to yeast taxonomy will live forever. Rest in peace Clete. Your contribution will serve mankind forever.

Dr. Kurtzman was a kind and inspiring scientist that my mentor in the Mycology Lab here at ARS in Beltsville, MD introduced me to many years ago when I worked on yeasts. I have followed his work over the years and marvel at the breadth and high quality of his contributions. It was an honor to have met and corresponded with him back then.

We all cherish him and his inquiring and kind spirit he shared with all.

Remembering a classmate from a longtime ago in Mansfield, Ohio who was friendly but always seemed to be a "cut above" in kindness and attention. Obviously his contributions to science and life will not go unnoticed by all. Sympathy to your whole family in the loss of Cletus but so thankful to you for your care and support given to him through his life as you then were a contributor to his many successes. Prayers for peace.

A big giant has left us unexpectedly and too soon. His research and application legacy lives on as appropriately recognized by his colleagues and beneficiaries around the world. We shall miss you and thank you for making the human life safer and more productive through your lifelong contributions. For my family, you are one of the kindest souls we' be ever met..
