Richard Harbaugh Obituary

Richard A. Harbaugh

BUCYRUS - Richard A. "Dick" Harbaugh, 91, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home where he was surrounded by many who loved him.

He was born September 25, 1926 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Russell Lee and Ruth (McClure) Harbaugh. Dick was a 1944 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and soon thereafter entered the US Army, proudly served his country during WW II. Following his 2 ½ years of service time, he returned home and worked at Westinghouse for 41 years until retiring in 1985.

On February 18, 1978, Richard married Donna M. (Frost) Markley Harbaugh whom he met through Parents Without Partners. Donna survives and will cherish their many casino trips over the years as this was something that gave Richard much enjoyment.

Dick was very active in the lives of our areas youth; especially in the 1960s when he coached Galion Little League. He always wanted to have a reunion with the players he coached as they had a strong impact on his life.

Dick was a longtime member of Good Hope Lutheran Church as well as the American Legion, Post 181 and the VFW Post 8999. He dabbled in photography and video work for several years, which provided many opportunities to watch his grandchildren at their events. Dick also put his photography and video skills to work at Access 21; a career that began with Linda Durtschi and continued with Gary Hess. More recently for relaxation, he enjoyed crossword puzzles as well as reading the newspaper.

In addition to Donna, his wife of nearly 40 years, Dick is survived by two children, Thomas (Linda) Harbaugh and Linda (John) Beal; three step-children, Dennis (Vicki) Markley, David (Cindy) Markley and Sandy (Kim) Klieger; nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren as well as one great-great grandchild. Dick was preceded in death by a son, Steve Harbaugh; two grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Skeese.

A private graveside memorial service will be held in Nevada Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by US Army and American Legion, Post 181 Honor Guards as well as services of Patriot Guard Riders.

Memorial contributions may be made payable to Good Hope Lutheran Church and given through Wise Funeral Service, who assisted with his arrangements. Friends are encouraged to share a favorite memory by visiting Richard's tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
