Max Stanley Roberts
MANSFIELD: Max Stanley Roberts, 88, of Mansfield, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. Born June 19, 1924 in Mansfield, he was the son of Herschel F. and Ruth Irene (Myer) Roberts. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge receiving a Bronze Star and other medals for his service. He was a 1971 graduate of The Ohio State University and retired from Madison Schools in 1985. He also was co-owner along with his father and brother of Roberts Motors and Body Shop in the 1950's and 60's. He was a 65 year member of the Venus Masonic Lodge #152 F & AM, American Legion and the VFW in Mansfield and was also a member of the Amvets and the Elks Lodge in Fort Pierce, Florida.
He is survived by a son, Gene (Sheryl) Roberts of Mansfield; grandchildren, Kris (Joe) Storad of Wadsworth, Ohio and Keith (Suzanne) Roberts of Knoxville, TN; great grandchildren, Katelyn and Ryan Storad and Abbygail Roberts; a brother, Dick (Kathryn) Roberts of Mansfield; and brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Norma Kahl; a godson, Mark Kahl; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joe Ann (Bishop) Roberts.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Dennis Eggerton. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail after the service at the funeral home with burial following at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Max S. Roberts Scholarship Fund at Madison High School.
