Ralph C. "Bud" Asay Born April 10th, 1921 at Childrens Hospital in S.F., and died January 26th, 2007 at home, at age 85. He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Clarice Asay, brother Larry, sister Marie, and beloved daughter Carol Eve (Alain) Asay-Rech (October 12th, 2006). He was the loving and devoted husband of Kathryn for 64 years. Children: Ralph, Jr. of Novato and Don (Karen) of Petaluma; grandchildren: Dean (Nancy) and Kristen Rech of Salem, Oregon, and Abe and Eli Asay of Petaluma; great grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Emily, and Joshua Rech of Salem, Oregon. He attended St. Anselm's Grammar School and belonged to Boy Scout Pack #5 at the Legion Log Cabin in San Anselmo. He led a group of Cub Scouts across the Golden Gate Bridge in 1937 on opening day, strung out and tied together by a long rope. He attended Tam High in the late '30s when he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and was stationed at Camp Northwestern at Willits, CA. He then went to work for PG&E and did not retire until 42-1/2 years later. He was glad to go to work every day because each day was different and there were always problems to be solved; and, also, he had a great feeling and respect for his fellow "working men", as he called them. Even after retiring, he often met them for lunch and inquired about them all and was kept informed about them by his son Don who also works for PG&E and was often told they inquired about him. He was a loyal member of IBEW #1245 all his working life. During this time, he was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve, San Rafael "C" Co. 12 Inf. Bn. He was a long time member of Fairfax-Sleepy Hollow Little League -- first as a coach and then as an equipment manager. Since 1971, he and Kathryn owned a Travel Trailer which grew bigger every few years as they went farther afield -- all of U.S., Canada, Alaska, and parts of Mexico. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Rita's Church on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. at Fairfax on Friday, March 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 750 Lindaro Street, San Rafael, CA, 94901, 415-454-8464, or a charity of your choice.

Hello Ralph, Been a long time since I stopped by but I was pretty ill there for awhile. Your great-grandson Christopher just graduated High School. Hard to believe he is already 18 and moving on to college next fall.

Uncle Bud, I am really sorry that I didn't know that you and Aunt Kay had passed. I heard from Danny that you had gone and decided to check to read for myself. I know Carol is with you and mom having a bbq with Grandpa and Nana!
I am glad that you got to see me in my class A's when I got home from my Army training! The look on your face when you came out from your work area under the house was priceless..
If Alain reads this ~ please tell Dean and Krissy hello from their cousin. Thanks..

Happy Fathers Day Ralph. You are not forgotten by any of us but are remembered fondly for the humble way you carried yourself and your generosity.

Rest in Peace knowing that Carol is with you and that your grandchildren Dean & Kristen love you.

Hello Ralph,

Kay passed away on the 10th from heart failure. She was 85. Kristen tried to call her on Thanksgiving but she never returned the calls.

Kris had planned on stopping by to see her when we returned from the Rose Bowl in a few weeks. Sorry to say that will not happen now. I think it is just hitting Kristen now that Kay is gone and there is no longer a reason to go to Fairfax anymore.

Carol has a resting place in a beautiful site with a green granite headstone. I am having a memorial bench with the names of my father and you doanted to the site also.

Rest peacefully Ralph. Dean and Kristen are still looked out after by me and some say Carol too.

Hi Ralph.

The kids and I were just talking about you the other day. Remembering your motorcycle and taking the jids for a ride.

We miss you Ralph.

Dean, Kristen and me.

Hello Ralph,

Sorry for the delay in getting back here. You are not forgotten by me, nor by Dean & Kristen. They miss you Ralph. Kristen had planned a trip down to Marin for this upcoming Easter vacation but cancelled it. She told me, Grandpa isn't there anymore and that is why I used to go down.

I wish you could see the house as it is now. We remodeled it just as Carol wanted it and follwed her directions in garden to complete the Koi pond expansion. It is just like Carol, beautiful.

Rest peacefully Ralph. None of us here will forget you and I assure you, no one will ever forget your daughter, and my wife Carol.

You were my father in law Ralph and at times over 30 years we butted heads once in awhile. With that said, I have enormous respect for you and always have. Some people underestimated you and that was a mistake on many levels. Those people missed out on your simple down to earth humor, your ready smile and cut to the chase advice.

Your children, Don and my Carol Eve are examples of what you contributed to this world. I remember our children, your grandchildren, Dean and Kristen always becoming excited when they had a chance to see Grandpa. Visiting you was always a treat for them. That never changed even as they both grew up into adults and had families. Don followed in your footsteps and Carol blossomed into a loved, respected and admired adult, like her father. We all have shortcomings but yours were far overshadowed by your warmth, generosity and affection. I will miss our talks when Kay wasn’t around Ralph and your advice on the kids. You were a good man, a modest man, and rarer yet, an honest one.
I miss your daughter, my Carol Eve terribly Ralph, and I will miss you too.

For 20 years I lived two doors down from Ralph in Fairfax and often enjoyed chatting whenever we saw each other outside. He was a wonderful neighbor and always seemed upbeat and happy. 'You were a good man, Ralph...rest in peace.'

"Bud" was a great person and a great co-worker, even to us "working women" out in the field working with his "working men" .He made the start of my career with pg and e a great one. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers go out to his family .
