Richter, Gilbert
Gilbert Richter, age 99, passed away peacefully on Friday December 23, 2016. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday January 4, 2017 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1414 West 5th Street, Marshfield. Father Eric Berns will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, at a later date.
Gilbert was born May 2, 1917 in Mattoon, WI, son of Herman and Augusta (Stahl) Richter. He enjoyed 76 years of marriage to his loving spouse, Julia, who preceded him in death. Gilbert served in the United States Army.
Gilly worked as a pipefitter for the Rothschild Paper Mill in Rothschild, WI. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, having harvested several trophy deer and fish. He also enjoyed quality time with his wife, family and friends at his lake home in Rhinelander, WI. Gilbert lived a full life, having enjoyed many outdoor activities, card games with relatives and friends and traveling throughout the United States. In his later years he enjoyed reminiscing about past hunting and fishing adventures and sharing stories from his youth. He was proud to have served his country and remained active with the local veteran activities.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter; Julianne Ferries, granddaughters; Lee Ann Dominick and Lynn Marie Schweiger, great grandchildren; Adam, Bryan, Alyssa and Ben and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
