CHICOPEE-Daniel O’Donnell, 81, of Curry Lane in the Fairview section of Chicopee passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family early Friday morning, January 15th, 2021. Dan was born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland on July 27th, 1939, a son of the late Thomas and Nora (Carey) O’Donnell. He was raised and educated in Ireland and attended schools in County Clare. He left Ireland in 1957, immigrating to New York City, before settling in Chicopee with his family. He was married on June 17th, 1967 to the former Kathleen M. Colreavy, spending 54 blessed years together sharing laughs, love and family. Dan worked for Chicopee Electric Light over 25 years before retiring in 1996. Never one to sit still, he then took a job driving a school bus for the Ludlow public schools for 20 years. Dan was a longtime communicant of the former St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee and more recently, St. Anne’s Church in Fairview. He was a longtime member of several clubs including the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69, the Chicopee Tigers AC Club and the Moose Family Lodge. Dan was proud of his Irish heritage and was a longtime member of the Chicopee St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, served as their President and was honored by the Association in 1997 as the Parade Marshal, leading the Chicopee contingency in the annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day parade. He loved his family; spending time with his children and grandchildren doing some of his favorite activities; fishing, hunting and singing. He would attend any and all of their sporting events, easily being the loudest supporter in the stands. He leaves his beloved wife; Kathleen (Colreavy) O’Donnell. His children; Thomas O’Donnell and his wife Jeanne of Southwick and Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Kim of Palmer. His cherished grandchildren; Kieran, Declan, Fiona, Isabel and Martha. He also leaves his dear brother, Thomas Oliver O’Donnell of Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland and many dear nieces, nephews and the extended O’Donnell family in Ireland. Dan was sadly predeceased by a loving son; Eugene O’Donnell and siblings; Owen O’Donnell, Sue Fennell and Bridie McGuinness. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT TYLUNAS FUNERAL HOME, 159 BROADWAY ST., CHICOPEE ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2021 FROM 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.

THE FAMILY INVITES YOU TO JOIN THEM DIRECTLY AT ST. ANNE'S CHURCH, 30 COLLEGE ST., CHICOPEE ON THURSDAY AT 10:00 A.M. TO CELEBRATE THE LITURGY OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL FOR DANIEL. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fuller rd., Chicopee. Dear Kathleen, Tom, Jeanne, Dan, Kim, Kieran, Declan, Fiona, Isabel and Martha
So so sorry for your loss. Danny was a such a vibrant fun loving gentleman. It was a pleasure to be in his company. It was clear from every meeting with him how special each of you were to him. It is also clear how his love for his family and love for the outdoors live on in all of you. I am privileged to have so many happy memories spending time in his company both in US and in Ireland, most recently celebrating his 80th birthday. It is difficult not being able to travel and be with all of you in this difficult time. I look forward to celebrating Danny's life with more family reunions in the future. For now all my love and condolences. Thinking of you all X . Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Sinéad.
