I so enjoyed meeting Maria through my wife, Cathy Gouch. We last saw her over breakfast at Guerneville's River Inn 2 or 3 years ago. She was fascinating and bold and beautiful.

I knew Maria through (now) LeadingAge, which she helped to establish. I was also her client and a friend. Her wisdom and insight about needs and wants of an aging population were uncanny.... But most important was her sense of justice for all ... I am southerner- she greeted me warmly at meetings by exclaiming, "Well, it's Larry Minnix! Butter my buns and call me a biscuit!"... A Renaiisance Woman- and too little recognized, I'm afraid...Larry Minnix

A touchstone in my life since 1975 when we discovered that we both lived in Santa Monica along with attending USC's first class in a master's program in gerontology. My sons were up at her house much of the time during that first summer and so was I. She was always there when I needed to talk and vice-versa. These last years, when I discovered she was living in the same county that I had moved to, were a reunion of sorts which meant more conversations that seemed to pick up where we had left off. Maria was a force that I will treasure for all of my life and be ever so grateful that I knew her.
