Arvin Reed Obituary

Arvin "Charlie" Reed was born in rural Arkansas in March of 1940 to Bill and Edith Reed. They moved to Bridgeville, California, for the logging season of 1945, and then to Albion and Fort Bragg where Charlie attended grade school. He moved to Ukiah and graduated from Ukiah High School where he found his passion for playing basketball, dancing and hot rods. He went on to attend Napa Junior College and University of Nevada.
In his early days, Charlie worked with his dad as a logger and was a Paul Bunyan Day Chainsaw Champion. Charlie obtained his real estate license in 1970 and worked for a number of offices before having his own, Coastline Realty, and later Reed and Kamb Realty with Bud Kamb.
In 1981, with partner Allan Cone, Charlie purchased Mendo Realty, which has been operating since 1963. Charlie was the managing broker until 2006 when he retired from active real estate sales but would still visit the office every day to "check his emails."
He enjoyed staying in touch with everyone and continued to mentor, encourage and remain interested in everyone's lives. He brought in produce from his garden: apples, lemons ... "The Office Farmer."
In 2017, Charlie, Allan Cone and Greg Burke added an affiliation and are now doing business as Mendo Sothebys International Realty.
Charlie enjoyed his family, fishing, his home, his friends ... he worked hard and he played hard. He knew how to enjoy life. He believed in finishing what one started. He enjoyed maintaining and preserving his hard work: tending to his home and land, smoking and canning fish he and his sons caught. Charlie was known as a "straight shooter" and was appreciated for his leadership and support.
He and his high school sweetheart, Beth, celebrated 57 years of marriage last March. He was father to three and loved his daughters-in-law: Randy and Jennifer, Charles and Hillary, and Julie. He was grandfather to Logan, Kaitlyn and Genevie; and great-grandfather to Trillium. His younger siblings were Tony (children Tony, Tana and Scott) and Susie (children Nikki and Kimmi). He also thought of his cousin, Charlie Adamson, as a brother.
Arvin "Charlie" Reed died Oct. 3, 2018, surrounded by family. There will be a party to celebrate his life at Hill House in Mendocino on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018 at 4 p.m.

I was saddened to learn of your loss.

There will always be a warm place in my heart for Charlie. He was the best and smartest Broker-Boss I ever had in real estate. Charlie would laugh when I called him my Broker-Boss.

My condolences and prayers are with his family.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Bartalini

I was devastated to hear that Charlie is no longer with us. My heartfelt condolences to his wonderful family. I considered Charlie as a mentor of sorts but never told him that. His great smile and warm friendship made him always welcome. Rest In Peace my friend. David Herstle Jones
