Thank you Mr. Holmes. You played a large part in saving my life. I was abalone free diving with my old friend Ken Crowther in the Jug Handle area during a heavy December 1996 storm surge. We got caught in the rip tide and sucked out to sea. Couple of friends on the bank dashed into town and got Ken's mom Ivy. She hopped into your boat down at the harbor and raced out to where we where hanging on. Ken was sick and almost blind. I was holding him on and didn't have much left myself. The surge was now taking us back into the rocks to the south. There was nothing we could do. Then when we bobbed up in the waves, there about a hundred feet away was Ivy. There were rocks appearing under us. If there was any body who could sea hawk in and swoop up two drowned rats it was Ivy Crowther. IN YOUR BOAT. It was small enough and fast enough to pull it off. We poured Ken over the rail into the boat. The next dip and I walrused over the rail and we were both in. Once in, I barfed over the side from Jug Handle to under the bridge at Noyo. Some people thought there was a short in the foghorn that day and it was going crazy, but Ivy, Ken and I know what really happened. Thank you Mr. Holmes, I'm sorry I waited so long to tell you this story.
