Howard L. Harrison
August 11, 1929 - September 19, 2018
Howard "Howie" Lakewood Harrison was born August 11, 1929 in Valdosta, Georgia and passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on September 19, 2018.
He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Air Force after 28 years having worked as a Paralegal. After retirement he worked for the US Postal Service for nine years.
He was a valued member of the N.C.O.A., Chief's Group at Castle A.F.B., VFW Post 9946 in Atwater, and the Castle AFB/Atwater Kiwanis Club. In addition he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Lay Eucharistic Member for St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Atwater.
Howard was the epitome of a southern gentleman, gracious in demeanor and quick to hold a door for a lady. He had a keen sense of humor and knack for practical jokes which were played on pretty much anyone who knew him. His antics will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Harrison of Merced, his three daughters; Diane Van Wagner of Manteca, Patricia Krakora of Green Oaks, Illinois and Catherine Harrington of Burney Falls, his son David Harrison of Dublin, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Ruth Frances in 1961.
The family is grateful to the staff at Park Merced Assisted Living facility for their support and care of Howard over the last few years.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 4 – 7 pm Thursday, September 27, 2018 with rosary at 6 pm, at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way Atwater, CA. Dad, what a life you had! The travel, the cruises, the First Class trips on TWA to London. You had the best sense of humor of anyone I knew. Thank you for being my dad. Forever in my heart. Love, Pat

The measure of a parent is the devotion and character of their children. Clearly, a job well done, Mr. Harrison.
